Environment
MYOB is committed to making the most of natural resources. Some of our Environmental Care initiatives include:
- Head office energy conservation - MYOB's head office is located in a purpose-built energy efficient building, substantially reducing the environmental impact of the greatest number of MYOB employees.
- Extensive use of recycled paper - as far as possible we use recycled paper in our stationery and laser printers. Unfortunately we have yet to find recycled paper in the quantities or the quality we need for printing manuals and packaging.
- Extensive use of plantation timbers in manuals and packaging - our software manuals are all printed on paper which is predominantly sourced from Australian softwood plantations. This is a renewable resource.
- We actively recycle paper and cardboard via Visy Recycling.
- Being Energy Smart - as our business grows we are seeking ways in which we can minimise our energy consumption.
This has included
- Identifying ways in which we can adapt our buildings to ensure we maximise the efficiency of airconditioning, lighting and other high energy using devices.
- Staff education on being energy smart including enabling energy saver settings on computers.
- Encouraging recycling of office materials to the maximum extent possible.
- Encourage staff to offset the environmental cost of running their vehicles by using public transport.
At the time of head office construction, MYOB's efforts were recognised by being awarded the Gold Award and Best Retail/Service Provider Award at the 2001 Energy Smart Awards. During 1999, the company also won the Best Retail/Service Provider Award at the Energy Smart Awards and a City of Whitehorse Environment Award.
